Finding NFL pubs and Discord teammates in Scotland

The chat is on Discord. Watch near you lists Scottish bars only after we have checked they are showing NFL this season. How to watch with people, without inventing venues.

Updated for the 2026 NFL season, 22 September 2026. First Down Scotland editorial.

The lonely version of being an NFL fan in Scotland is a laptop, a kick-off you misread, and a group chat that died in 2019. The better version is ordinary: a few people who like the same club, a way to talk during the week, and sometimes a room with a screen. This site is built around that better version. It is not built around a scraped list of every pub that once showed a Super Bowl. This guide is the honest state of the search, and what you can do this Sunday while parts of it are still unfinished.

Two different tools get mixed up, so they are separated here. Community is the Discord: chat, a channel per NFL team, and the place you arrange to meet. Watch near you is the real-world half: a directory of Scottish bars checked as showing NFL this season, grouped by town, with the date of the check. Scheme Battles is the map of which club people in a town follow. None of these is a promise that a screen is on in your street tonight.

What we will not publish

We do not list pubs we have not agreed with. An empty partner page is a choice. A page of “maybe they show it” venues would be more useful for one weekend and worse for the next two years, because screens get taken down, managers leave, and a Sunday RedZone that happened in February is not a policy. If you have seen a blog post naming ten Scottish bars, treat it as someone else’s research, check it yourself, and do not be surprised if the telly is on the darts.

We also do not invent fan counts. If Scheme Battles says a town is empty, it is empty on our map. That might mean nobody has put a pin down yet. It does not mean you are the only person in Dundee who knows what a quarterback is. The map fills when people use it. Until then, “too early” is the accurate headline.

Discord: the week-to-week room

The First Down Scotland Discord is one server. There is a general room for people who are still learning or still choosing, an NFL room for the week’s games, and a channel for each of the 32 clubs. You join from the Community page. You do not need to perform. Lurking until you have a side is explicitly fine. If you want a side to walk in with, pick one first, even if you change it later.

The house rules are short because long rules do not get read. Be sound. Disagreement is fine and being a pain is not. No hate, no slurs, no pile-ons. No spam, and no betting tips: we do not do that on the site either. Beginners are the point, so “what does 3rd & 12 mean?” is a good message, not an embarrassing one. If someone is watching later, do not post the score. UK kick-offs mean the spoiler window is most of the week. The longer version of the late-night problem is in the late kick-off guide.

Use the team channel for the practical stuff. Who is watching the 6pm game. Who has Sky and who is on the Channel 5 window. Who is going to be awake for Monday. A channel is more use than a giant “NFL Scotland” feed where thirty-two clubs talk over each other. If your club’s channel is quiet, say hello anyway. Quiet is how every room starts, and it is not a verdict on the city you live in.

A pub, asked properly

The directory is a check, not a booking. Phone or walk in and ask a specific thing: which NFL window they show, on which service, and whether Sunday at 6pm or 9pm is actually the plan this week. “Do you show the sport?” is too vague. A lot of bars show the Super Bowl and nothing else. A lot of bars have one screen on a main-event football match and will not move it for a 9pm American game. You want the weekly habit, not the one-off.

The comfortable windows are the ones to ask about first. A 6pm UK kick-off and a 9pm UK kick-off can be a social evening. A 1am kick-off is a different business, and most places are shut, correctly. If a bar does stay open, know what you are signing up for the next morning. The watch guide is the channel map so you can ask for “the Channel 5 game” or “Sky’s early Sunday” in words a member of staff can check.

  • Ask what they show, and on which Sunday. A one-word “yes” is not a listing.
  • Go to the early window before you commit to a late one. See if anyone else there cares.
  • If you find a room that works, tell the team channel. That is how a meetup starts without a logo.
  • If you run a bar that shows the NFL and you want it checked for the directory, use Contact or the email on Watch near you. Say the pub, the town, and what you already show.
  • Do not expect us to call a venue a partner because it was busy once. Partner means we have agreed it, and the page will say so.

Why your town is the right size

Scotland’s NFL fans are spread out. Some are in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Plenty are not, and a site that only talks about the two biggest cities is missing the point of a small country with a lot of towns. Scheme Battles asks for a UK town, not a street and not a postcode. The public map shows town totals. By default we do not show which teams those fans support until at least three people from that town have registered, so one person cannot be picked out. The Scheme Battles guide explains the privacy rules in full. The short version: put your town on the map if you want the next person in Motherwell, East Kilbride, Paisley, Dundee or anywhere else to see that they are not starting from zero.

A town total will not tell you which pub has the game on. It will tell you whether it is worth asking in the Discord for company. Three people who support different clubs can still watch RedZone together. Ten people who support the same club can take over a corner if a bar will have them. Neither number appears by magic. Someone has to go first, and the someone can be you, without handing over an email address.

A Sunday that does not depend on a perfect venue

If your town is not on the directory yet, you still have a way to watch with people. Agree a kick-off in the team channel. Watch the same game, on whatever legal feed each person has. Talk in the channel, or in a voice room if that is the mood. Meet in real life when someone has actually checked a screen, not when a website has guessed. This is less romantic than a packed pub with scarves, and it is how most UK NFL groups actually work for years before they have a room.

Bring a beginner. The person who does not know the down and distance will learn more from one explained drive than from a season of nodding. If you are that person, say so. The learning guide is the homework you can do before you go, so the first hour is not pure translation. Nobody sensible minds the question. The people who mind are the reason the house rules exist.

If you are the pub

A bar goes on the directory only after we have checked what it shows this season, with a source and a date. That is not a request for drinks on the house, and not a promise of a crowd we cannot prove. If you already put the NFL on, write to us. Tell us what you show (a Sunday window, RedZone, the Super Bowl only) and which town. The form is on Contact. Watch near you also has an email for a bar enquiry. We would rather list a room we have checked than a long list of maybes.

Fans in other cities: you do not have to wait for that. Use the Discord and the map. If a room in Aberdeen, Inverness, or a smaller town becomes a genuine weekly habit, tell us. We will not paint it onto the site until it is real. That slowness is the editorial rule, and it is there so this page is still true next season.
